Welcome to A. Davoodzadeh & Son - Antique Rugs NYC.

Given the popularity of Kashan rugs, numerous industrialists from other countries have set up their weaving plants in Iran. The German firm Petagh existed for almost two decades in Iran viz.a.viz 1912 to 1930. Among other famous terms are Benalin and Tabadabai. There are no design schools in Iran nor do we find any historic evidence of design dynasties. But most weavers are young boys who produce what is in their minds on the carpets in such a manner that it appears to be most appealing to the eyes.

Kashan is a province in Northern Iran and rugs that come from kashan are called Kashan rugs. The Persian Royal workshops first produced these rugs in 18th and 19th century for the first time. These workshops ceased production after Afghan invasion in 1922. In the late 19th century there was a shift in industry and weavers shifted to good quality wool sourced from Sabzevar. Previously they had been using wool from the local tanneries but this was not of very good quality though it did provide support to the local industry.

Rugs and carpets are two different items differing mainly on the basis of their size. A piece smaller than 30 feet is called a rug in industrial terms though common folk use the terms interchangeably. Rugs are an important item in home decoration and feet literally crave a rug in homes. They can be exquisite and expensive forms of rugs from Persia or modern and contemporary less expensive rugs. Kashan rugs are a type of the famous Persian rugs and they are wanted all over the world. Persian traders make a lot of money by selling these carpets and thus carpet weaving and production is an essential part of the country’s economy.

Designs on these rugs feature a medallion in the center with patterns blooming towards the four ends of the carpet. These patterns can carry flowers, leaves or other things like lotuses, petals and flowers. How finely a rug has been woven can be seen by turning the rug. The knots per square inch vary from 20 to over a hundred and that determines the density and strength of the carpet.

There are many companies that offer Persian rugs to customers and Davoodzadeh and Sons is one such New York based company. Our suppliers are auctioneers that receive carpets from all over the world. The good thing about these rugs is that they have a good resale value. People at one time, took pride in owning Persian rugs and they were prized possession of the family handed down to the next generation and the next.

Persian rugs in particular Kashan rugs, might show complete stories like a king finding his queen or a bird looking for seeds. Persian rugs are not only used on the floors; they are also used as wall hangings and are always an attractive ornament in the room. The rods that hold the rug to the wall are expensive to normally priced which shows that the accessory industry is also versatile like the world of rugs itself.
